Marketing and PR Assistant

job type:

Independent contractor with minimum of 5 hours a week with room for growth. Remote, with option for in person office time in Louisville, KY if desired

3-week trial period with 6-month contract to follow

Compensation:

Starting at $20-26/hour, commensurate with experience

Responsibilities:

  • Finding, vetting, and submitting to award shows

  • Finding, vetting, and pitching podcasts

  • Finding and vetting media outlets and submitting press releases, interview requests, and feature pitches

  • Editing YouTube videos to repurpose Instagram Lives and other marketing video content

  • Repurposing content from podcasts or videos into written content

  • Formatting and scheduling blog posts in Squarespace

  • Adding SEO to blog posts

  • Filling in monthly LinkedIn and Instagram template reports

  • Assisting with social media scheduling in Clickup

  • Creating social media graphics using existing custom Canva templates

  • Brainstorming ideas for future marketing campaigns and content

  • Assisting in maintaining and running ads and email funnel sequences

Job requirements:

The Marketing and PR assistant is a go-getter who is able to research opportunities and discuss ideas and strategies in addition to making submissions.

Required experience:

  • Preferred bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

  • 1-2 years of experience in PR or marketing.

  • Preferred freelance or boutique agency experience.

  • Strong work samples showing ability to conduct media research and handle pitches.

Required technical skills:

  • The ability to find and vet award shows, podcasts, media outlets, and other relevant platforms for submission or pitching, including familiarity with PR databases and advanced LinkedIn search functions.

  • The ability to write and edit press releases, feature pitches, blog posts, social media captions, and other types of written content, with a foundational understanding of blogging and SEO best practices.

  • The ability to edit YouTube videos, repurpose Instagram Lives, and other marketing video content using video editing software like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.

  • The ability to repurpose content from podcasts or videos into written content using transcription tools like Rev or Otter.

  • The ability to format and schedule blog posts in Squarespace or similar website building platforms, add SEO to blog posts, and create landing pages.

  • The ability to create and maintain monthly reports for LinkedIn and Instagram, analyze data, and provide insights and recommendations.

  • The ability to assist with social media scheduling and management using tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or Clickup, and create social media graphics using graphic design software such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.

  • The ability to brainstorm ideas for future marketing campaigns and content, maintain and run ads, and manage email funnel sequences.

Required soft skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Creativity and the ability to think outside the box.

  • Can-do attitude and willingness to step into multiple aspects of PR and marketing.

  • Ability to use the software our team collaborates on.

  • Responsive, timely, and with strong communication skills verbally and in writing.

  • Strong self-planning skills with the ability to keep the team informed of progress and request information or content or adjustments to scheduling when needed.

  • Honest and transparent, able to receive and share kind, constructive, and strategic feedback.

  • Critical thinking skills to consider how multiple moving parts affect pieces or phases of a project.

  • High level of ownership of tasks and pride in contributing to a high-quality work product as a team member.
