job type:
Independent contractor with minimum of 5 hours a week with room for growth. Remote, with option for in person office time in Louisville, KY if desired
3-week trial period with 6-month contract to follow
Compensation:
Starting at $20-$26/hour, commensurate with experience
Responsibilities:
Creating summary PDFs for client review in Adobe Indesign
Applying branding to mockups in Adobe Photoshop
Stationery, collateral, signage, and design using provided brand assets in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Canva
Social media graphic design in Canva
Packaging up branding files into file formats for web and print
Client content auditing for collateral designs and websites
Image optimization for web
Website content input
Packaging up website deliverables
Job requirements:
The collateral and layout designer is able to implement existing brand designs in a way that is both consistent with the system but with fresh layout approaches.
Required experience:
2 years minimum professional graphic design experience
Design coursework covering Adobe products, showing commitment to continuing learning most advanced techniques and software
Preferred freelance or boutique agency experience
Strong portfolio work samples showing multi-page packaging and print design experience
Required technical skills:
Knowledge of packaging and printing applications and paper/box/envelope/label types
Experience with preparing press ready files, printing within live image areas and safe zones, working with bleeds, CMYK, spot color, outlined text, and other printing best practices
Knowledge of typesetting and paragraph styles within Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
Knowledge of color spaces in Adobe documents, Pantone color systems and conversion to RGB and CMYK
Knowledge of file packaging best practices in Adobe Illustrator and Indesign
Knowledge of batch image optimization for web in Adobe Photoshop for load time and user experience
Preferred experience with Content Management Systems and basic Squarespace, CSS, and HTML knowledge (I.e. confident installing a plugin or collaborating with a developer to apply customization when doing content input)
Required soft skills:
Keen eye for detail and ability to spot even minor errors or inconsistencies of a brand application
Ability to implement existing brand designs in a way that is both consistent with the system and retaining those standards, but with fresh layout approaches
Can do attitude and willingness to step into multiple behind the scenes parts of our established process
Ability to follow specific processes and steps while utilizing the software our team collaborates on
Responsive, timely, strong communication skills verbally and in writing
Strong self planning skills with the ability to keep the team informed of progress and request information or content or adjustments to scheduling when needed
Honest and transparent, able to receive and share kind, constructive, and strategic feedback
Critical thinking skills to consider how multiple moving parts affect pieces or phase of a project
High level of ownership of tasks and pride in contributing to a high quality work product as a team member
