Behind the Scenes: Pink Sand Branding and Packaging Design
Imagine this: you’re on the beach, a chilled drink in your hand, and you’re “cracking open the good life.” That’s the exact feeling Pink Sand founders envisioned when creating their brand: an elevated and carefree experience that embodies Bahamian lifestyle. With a premium line of spirits and seltzers, we were thrilled to partner with this Harbor Island team to craft brand and packaging design that feels like an escape in a bottle.

Pink Sand Brand Strategy
Pink Sand Spirits Co. is a luxury line of spirits and ready-to-drink canned cocktails from the Bahamas, brought to life by the team at Conch & Coconut. Having previously collaborated with Conch & Coconut on their branding, we were thrilled to partner with them again to craft the identity for Pink Sand Spirits Co.
From the beginning, it was clear that this brand needed to reflect Harbour Island’s famed pink sand beaches and relaxed atmosphere in an upscale way.
Research
Our process began with extensive research into luxury spirits branding. We dove deep into the competitive spirits market, studying trends, design elements, and messaging strategies used by other brands. We got to know Pink Sand’s ideal clients’ specific wants and needs: from high quality ingredients to travel keepsakes. This research guided our understanding of how to position Pink Sand as unique while remaining relevant in the upscale spirits category.
Objectives
The objectives were clear:
Create a brand that is carefree and inviting yet upscale.
Offer a keepsake that transports customers back to the Harbour Island lifestyle.
Build a product line that resonates with both casual beachgoers and discerning spirit connoisseurs.
Naming Consultation
We analyzed countless different name options to see how they resonated with ideal clients, met the brand’s objectives, and fit into the competitive landscape—ultimately helping the founders land on Pink Sand as a memorable nod to Harbour Island. We then helped wordsmith the brand’s messaging, refining the tagline to the final “Crack open the good life.”
Visual Direction
To encapsulate the Pink Sand vibe, we curated a moodboard that evoked tropical luxury, warm escapism, and contemporary elegance. This laid the foundation for exploring:
Typography: Fonts that balanced playfulness with an elevated feel.
Color Palette: A bright, tropical-inspired selection that would work well across a product line with a range of island-inspired flavors.
Pink Sand Branding
Once the brand strategy phase was complete, we moved onto design with clear objectives and direction. The heart of Pink Sand’s branding is its custom logo design, which is full of symbolism and storytelling.
Logo Symbolism
P—Pitchfork
A mermaid carries a trident in the shape of a P. This pitchfork is an emblem of magic carried by both mysterious women of the sea… and the devil alike. It adds a cheeky and playful feel to set the tone of good times on sea—and land. It positions Pink Sand as both enchanting and playful.S—Mermaid
A mermaid serves as the Pink Sand and Harbour Island ambassador, bringing treasures from the ocean and the island across the seas. Mermaids represent legend and adventure. This sand-siren symbolizes tales of travel from those who bring a bottle home from the Bahamas or discover a taste of those experiences after finding a bottle on the shelf.
Typography & Color
We selected a color palette inspired by the Bahamas—vibrant yet sophisticated—perfectly complementing the brand’s playful yet refined tone. Typography choices ensured the brand felt cohesive across all touchpoints, from labels to marketing collateral.
Brand Patterns
We designed beach-inspired patterns to bring a sense of place to every interaction with the brand. These patterns shine on packaging, social media, and branded merchandise.
Pink Sand Packaging Design
The Pink Sand line includes premium liquor bottles and ready-to-drink canned seltzers. Each product needed packaging that would stand out while staying true to the brand’s identity.
Liquor Labels
The Pink Sand spirits labels feature elegant designs and ocean-inspired illustrations. Each liquor category has a different color and shape for the label, from green ovals on gin to pink hexagons on tequila. We made sure that all legally required information was intentionally incorporated into the design so it looks elevated instead of like an afterthought!
Can and Box Designs
We went with a subtle, stylized gradient inspired by ocean waves for the cans and boxes they’re packaged in. The color coding from the liquor bottles carries over to the ready to drink cocktail cans, from green cans for the Hibiscus Gin & Soda drink to pink cans for the Grapefruit Tequila and Soda one. The bright colors, fun typography, and iconic PS icon come together in the design for a perfect blend of tropical flair and sophistication.
Results in the Real World
The Pink Sand branding project was a process of collaboration, creativity, and a shared vision to celebrate the magic of Harbor Island. From the pitchfork to the mermaid, every detail of the design tells a story of adventure, escape, and good times.
The final Pink Sand brand toolkit includes:
A cohesive visual identity, from logo to packaging.
Patterns and illustrations that bring the brand’s story to life.
Fun, tropical packaging design that stands out on shelves and sparks joy in customers.
Currently, Pink Sand products are available in around 100 stores across the Bahamas, allowing customers to “crack open the good life” wherever they go.
